The 15th session of the General Assembly meeting of the Ministerial Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation of the OIC (COMSTECH) took place on 31st May – 1st June, 2016 in Islamabad, Pakistan. The General Assembly convenes every two years to reflect on the accomplishments of COMSTECH and approve the budget. The agenda for the meeting consisted of 15 items which included activities such as presentation of Activity reports by various Inter Islamic Networks, election of office bearers to various key positions and approval of numerous Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and budgets.
The Inter Islamic Network on Information Technology (INIT) was represented by the President INIT, Dr. S. M. Junaid Zaidi (S.I., H.I.) and Engr. Tahir Naeem, Executive Director INIT. Engr. Tahir Naeem delivered a succinctly prepared presentation detailing the activities and accomplishments of INIT since the turn of the decade, for the consideration of the committee. A detailed report highlighting the same had also been prepared and was disseminated to the participants in conjunction with the presentation.
The Executive Director’s presentation and the report were highly appreciated by the Committee highlighting the contributions that have been made in the field of Information Technology by the INIT thus making it one of the most active Inter Islamic Networks on the COMSTECH roster. Before the commencement of the closing ceremony, the INIT signed a MoU with the Inter Islamic Network on Science and Technology Parks (INSTP), Guilan, Iran that shall see both networks continue to grow with increased cooperation and the same level of exuberance that has always been the distinguishing factor for INIT. The meeting concluded with the closing ceremony that included words of encouragement by the Federal Minister of Finance Mr. Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mr. Rana Tanveer Hussain and the COMSTECH Coordinator General Dr. Shaukat Hameed.
